iZombie: Dead to the World

"Told from a female zombie’s perspective, this smart, witty detective series mixes urban fantasy and romantic dramedy.

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Dylan is a 20-something gravedigger in an eco-friendly cemetery. Once a month she must eat a human brain to keep from losing her memories, but in the process she becomes consumed with the thoughts and personality of the dead person – until she eats her next brain. She sets out to fulfi ll the dead person’s last request, solve a crime or right a wrong.

Our zombie girl detective is joined by a radical supporting cast: her best friend Eleanor, who happens to be a swinging ’60s ghost, a posse of paintball blasting vampires, a smitten were-dog and a hot but demented mummy."

I was so excited when I saw this graphic novel on prime reading! I knew that I had to download it straight away because I absolutely love the TV show. I've watched Season 1 so far - I've got so much catching up to do but I couldn't resist reading this.

iZombie was written by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred and illustrated by Michael Allred. After an incident, Gwen has been turned into a zombie and has had to forget her past life, family and friends. To avoid going full-zombie she has to eat brains. (Yuck!) I love how grossed out she is every time she has to do this - just like in the show!

However, she isn't just like any other normal zombie, as after she eats the brains she then gets all of the dead person's memories. This is such a cool concept and so different to what I've seen before! In this volume, the brains that she eats come from a man who had been murdered and she won't be able to get him out of her head until she catches his killer.

The storyline is so intriguing and I love the artwork! There is a really stylistic panel with Gwen holding a shovel above her head with lighting in the background, it is gorgeous! Plus, there is a really cool mix of supernatural creatures in this comic. Including zombies, ghosts, vampires and a were-terrior! Not to mention hunters which always makes things interesting when it comes to the supernatural.

iZombie was a really fun and engaging read, if you're into graphic novels then I would definitely recommend this!

Thank you for reading my thoughts, you can also find me on my Twitter and Instagram! Let me know if you have any recommendations of what I should read next.
