My Favourite Christmas Movies! ✨
Happy Christmas Eve!
So as we're deep into the Winter Holiday season now I thought I'd share some of my favourite Christmassy movies to watch this time of year!
Let me know if you love any of these films as well!
It's A Wonderful Life is THE Christmas film in my house! We watch it every year on Christmas Eve without fail and every year it makes us cry! 😭 Not only is it a feel good movie but it really makes you appreciate those around you and your life which is what Christmas is really about ❤️ The one rule we have with this film? It HAS to be the original black and white version!
"Every time a bell rings, an angel gets its' wings"
What is better than a movie that proves Santa Claus is real at Christmas?! We usually watch Miracle on 34th Street pretty early in the Christmas season because it always gets us into the Christmas spirit! This film is filled with amazing quotes and the SWEETEST scenes ❤️
"I'm very sorry Mother, you have it perfectly wrong"
Last Christmas is a relatively new film and I watched it for the first time this year but it became an instant favourite! Not only does it have Emilia Clarke and Henry Goulding (who are both amazing 😍) but it also has a great story that I fell in love with! Plus the soundtrack is all Wham and how could anybody not love that??
"We are so lucky to be alive. We are so lucky to be able to help each other, in little ways, and in big ways. The reason we are lucky is because helping each other is, in fact, what makes us happy."
C'mon do I even need to explain why The Grinch is on my favourites list?? Jim Carey, directed by Ron Howard, hilarious and delightful - should I go on? 😂 I think I've grown up to be The Grinch - just one who absolutely loves Christmas but doesn't like going outside with other people 😂
"4:00, wallow in self-pity; 4:30, stare into the abyss; 5:00, solve world hunger, tell no one; 5:30, jazzercize; 6:30, dinner with me—I can’t cancel that again; 7:00, wrestle with my self-loathing… I’m booked. Of course, if I bump the loathing to 9, I could still be done in time to lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and slip slowly into madness."
So technically, technically, Sleepless in Seattle isn't an actual Christmas film BUT it does have a Christmas scene AND it makes me cry like a baby so it fits all of the criteria for a Christmas film 😂 The chemistry between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is simply amazing - I mean they don't even have any scenes together until the end of the movie!
"I knew it the first time I saw her. It was like coming home, only to no home I'd ever known. I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was...magic."
Ok, again, technically not a Christmas movie, but I petition that Grumpy Old Men should be considered one! There's snow, it's Christmas time and it's about two enemies who both fall in love with the same girl who moves in across the street. Filled with fun pranks, hilarious quips and scenes that will definitely make you shed a tear or two. Practically Christmas in a nutshell!
"Hey Gustafson, your cat crapped on my steps again.
Yeah, who says you can't train a cat?"
OMG this film! This film! I love Santa Claus: The Movie so much - beginning with how the legend of Santa came about and then rejoining Santa in the 20th century when he meets some kids who help him put a stop to an evil toy shop owner. I genuinely can't explain how good this film is but I absolutely love it 😂
"Well, know this: time travels with you. The night of the world is a passage of endless night for you, until your mission is done. This is your legacy, and your gift.... as is the gift of flight. Now, all those within the sound of my voice, and all those on this Earth everywhere know that henceforth, you will be called --- Santa Claus. And now, everyone, Merry Christmas."
Yesss this was on my favourite Halloween movies post as well BUT the beauty of The Nightmare Before Christmas is that it works for anytime between the Halloween and Christmas period! Plus it's a pretty amazing movie so it deserves to be on both lists 😂
"There’s children throwing snowballs, instead of throwing heads, they’re busy building toys and absolutely no one’s dead."
The Hogfather is just pure genius by Terry Pratchett - I know it's actually two episodes BUT they are long enough to be considered a film 😂 It is perfect Pratchett and a magical story, it's kind of like The Nightmare Before Christmas in a way but I won't spoil it for you!
"You need to believe in things that aren't true. How else can they become?"
Another relatively new film but an instant classic for me is Klaus! I watched this with my niece last year and it was fantastic! Featuring how Christmas and Santa started, an unlikely friendship and a town full of pranks - it really is a joyous film!
"A true selfless act always sparks another."
(Unfortunately there were no GIFS for this film - how rude - but here is a picture found from Google Images!)
So there are all of my favourite Christmas films - there were so many I wanted to put on this list but I had to draw the line somewhere 😂 Maybe I'll do some more next year! Let me know your favourite Christmassy films!
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Holiday season and I'll see you soon ❤️
