Redhead in a Blue Convertible - Ivan Scott
"Buckle up. The ride is about to begin...
British doctor Sarah Farnsworth's life spirals out of control when she loses a patient during surgery, then soon after, loses herself.
When it looks like she will be lost forever, the road of fate leads her to a blue convertible owned by the mysterious Billy Caldwell.
She is informed Billy has twenty-four hours to get out of town and needs her help to get all of his affairs in order.
But why does he have to leave? And what is the big hurry?
As they drive around Atlanta in Billy's ragtop, visiting the people and places dear to him, Sarah realizes the crisp, October air has breathed new life into her due to her new friend.
What she doesn't realize is Billy has been watching her. For years.
And someone has been watching Billy. For decades..."
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to Ivan Scott for this opportunity, it was an absolute pleasure to read and review.
Trigger Warnings: graphic descriptions of a medical procedure, implied self harm, references to suicide, sexual themes
In Redhead in a Blue Convertible our protagonist is Sarah Farnsworth, a British redhead who works as a heart surgeon at a hospital in America and is considered the best at her job until the day when a patient dies on her operating table. She spirals into a deep depression and the trauma from what happened coupled with her mothers berating (as nothing Sarah does will ever be good enough) causes her to lose confidence in her skills and results in a crippling phobia of the operating room. Now she is reduced to driving around patients for the hospital.
One day she receives a tempting offer that is too good to refuse from the enigmatic William "Billy" Caldwell. All she has to do is drive around for 24 hours in exchange for a huge sum of money. A lot can happen in 24 hours and we join Sarah on her journey as she rediscovers love, her confidence and her joy for life.
"What happened yesterday shapes today and prepares us for tomorrow."
I loved the characters in this book! They were all so likeable and each of them had such a good sense of humour which made for a really fun read. Everyone knows how much I love jokes and especially puns and this book had plenty throughout. Plus some really great pop culture references!
Sarah is a funny, kind and sarcastic character. I love how the author showed this side of her as well as her depression. It is so important to remember that even though someone can be smily and joking on the outside, they can be hurting/drowning on the inside. Throughout the book we get to see Sarah's attitude to life change as she remembers the more positive things about life and what she has to live for.
On the other hand, we have Billy who matches Sarah's personality brilliantly. They are so similar in many ways but still retain their individuality.
Billy is charming, wise and shrouded in mystery. The reader is treated to little tidbits about Billy as we go through the story and can start connecting the dots as to who he his. Although he is stinking rich he is a very generous man and everybody has a nice story of how Billy has helped them. He has definitely lived an adventurous life and it is easy to see his positive influence on Sarah.
One of the things that I really enjoyed was how the banter between Billy and Sarah highlighted the cultural differences between England and America. It is so interesting to me as some sayings that are completely normal to me would make no sense to an American! It is definitely something that I have had to think about when writing my reviews!

After quite an intense month, Redhead in a Blue Convertible was such a nice and gentle read - it was just what I needed! With the amazing writing it's no surprise that I flew through this book!
I loved being a part of this fantastical 24 hour journey. It was the perfect read to finish Valentine's month with a great amount of romance and action. It would definitely make an excellent rom-com which I desperately need in my life!
There truly is a touch of magic in this book, it pulled at my heartstrings and is a really lovely story. I am so glad that I was given the chance to read it! Thank you so much to Ivan Scott!
